Omicron: Researchers warn that Omicron’s brain-related symptoms persist for months
The main points of the story
- Omicron’s symptoms remain in the brain
- Omicron also affects memory
- Brain fog persisted for months
Symptoms of Ommicron vary from person to person. Experts are trying to gather more information about these symptoms. According to a new study, a symptom of Omicron can last for several months and can take up to a year to go away. As a result, there can be problems with daily activities as well. Researchers define these symptoms as “brain fog.” Brain fog affects memory. This study was conducted by researchers from the University of Oxford.
What does the study say? According to the researchers, brain fog was observed in infected people even though they had no symptoms of Covid-19 disease. In the study, researchers saw memory problems in people. Professor Sijia Zhao from Oxford University said: ‘It is surprising that these Corona patients did not feel any other symptoms at the time of testing, but there was a decrease in their attention and memory. Our study results indicate that these symptoms can persist for months in people.
Professor Masoud Hussain said: We are still unable to understand the reasons for this effect on memory. However, the good thing is that they return to normal after 6 to 9 months of infection. They recover well over time. Previous studies have shown that patients who have been infected for a long time may also develop brain fog, among other symptoms such as coughing, irregular heartbeat, muscle aches and insomnia.
In brain fog, the desire to work is lost, there is a problem of lack of attention, lack of sleep and the inability to do any work correctly. The study included 136 people aged about 26, 53 of whom reported having previously had the virus and had mild symptoms. Several tests related to planning, attention and memory were performed in these volunteers. The episodic memory of all these people was found to be the worst. Because of this, he was unable to remember recent or past events in his life. However, no increase in things like fatigue, forgetfulness, poor sleep patterns or anxiety were found in these patients.
